Earlier this year, The Hollywood Reporter detailed how New York City and Los Angeles differ when it comes to facial plastic surgery. Our data shows those preferences don’t stop at the neck.
The Chest Coast — LA Comes Out on Top
Angelenos show high levels of interest in breast augmentations & implants, with 31 pageviews of breast content viewed for every 100 Angelenos. That’s twice as much as what New Yorkers research.
Both Cities Like Big Butts (But One’s More Interested in Implants)
New Yorkers have a high interest in Brazilian butt lifts (BBLs), a surgery that transfers fat to the butt. They research so much about BBLs, in fact, that there are 65 pages of BBL content viewed for every 100 New Yorkers — all 8.4 million of them.
Angelenos also want bigger backsides, but they’re more likely to check out other options. Per capita, they look at twice as much content about butt implants (like breast implants for the booty) than New Yorkers do.
Fat Sculpting Fascinates NYC
Ever heard of liposculpture, a kind of liposuction that chisels out a specific part of the body? New York has, and per capita, New Yorkers look at four times as much liposculpture content as do Angelenos. That might be because they plan to put that fat to use in a BBL or maybe they just really want a six-pack.
LA Still Takes #1
Despite spikes of interest in New York, Los Angeles dominates in the world of elective cosmetic treatments. With a population half the size of NYC’s, LA’s interest in specific beauty treatments is typically on par or above that of the Big Apple.
Who’s Doing the Research?
On RealSelf, LA’s audience is slightly more male than that of NYC; a quarter of traffic from Los Angeles comes from men, compared to 23% of New York traffic. But New Yorkers researching elective cosmetic treatments tend to be younger; nearly two-thirds of them are under age 34.
